NewsCLT20 Skipper Mahela Jayawardene praises  Unmukt Chand

"I saw him batting in the Under-19 World Cup final as well. It was a fantastic knock. When we came here and he was in squad I always wanted to try and back him and give him the opportunity. But I wasn't sure where he is going to fit in that batting line-up exactly.

"I think he is a very mature young cricketer who understands the game well. These were tough conditions but I think he handled them very well. Hopefully he can improve further," Jayawardene said. Jayawardene feels that while the Daredevils batsmen failed to convert, the bowlers did well. "None of our top guys went on to make big runs. We failed to convert our starts. That one big over probably gave us the momentum and when we came out to bowl, the bowlers showed a lot of purpose.

"The guys not only swung the ball, but also hit the deck. They continuously asked questions and handled the situation and conditions brilliantly. The wicket was a bit up and down," he said.

Commenting on Kevin Pietersen, Jayawardene said: "He has been very keen even during training and looked hungry. We just wanted him to go out and enjoy himself."
